A sister who doesn’t prohibit evil when she sees it

Question :

There is a sister who has some kind of understanding of the religion and she hears and sees evil from her companions and she doesn’t rebuke them or censure them in this action and she excuses herself for this action of hers by saying that she is not capable of this and that she is not good at doing this (inkar of munkar) and also she assumes that it is something which is not wajib upon her. If her husband advises upon her and orders her to command good and forbid the evil then she says about him that he is looking for problems in the house. Her husband has been advising his wife in this affair for the last ten years (or close to that). So what is your advice with regards to this ?

Answer :

The Shaykh hafidhahullah responded by saying:

The Messenger sallalahu alayhi wasallam said:

“Whomsoever sees a Munkar then let him change it with his hand and if he is not capable then let him change it with his tongue and if he is not capable then let him hate it in his heart.”

The hadith is in Saheeh Muslim on the authority of Abu Saeed Al Qudri radhiallahu anhu.

What is upon this sister is that she advises if she sees munkar ,and it is not upon her to change the evil with her hand if she is not capable in doing so.

The Messenger sallalahu alayhi wasallam also said,

“The Religion, it is Advice” (An Nasai 4199, graded Saheeh) and also Jareer radhiallahu anhu pledged the Messenger salallahu alayhi wasallam (for)- establishing the Salah and giving the Zakaah and giving advice to every muslim.(Saheeh Bukhari 524,and 2714).

So, it is upon her to do this and this does not mean that the person (her husband) if he advises her with regard to this,(establishing the good and forbidding from evil),that he wants problems. This does not necessitate this and it is upon her to accept advice.
