Leaving the boycotting of innovators

Question :

Is boycotting innovators in this time something which is incorrect being that some of the people they report from Al Albany rahimahullah that he viewed the opinion of abandoning boycotting of the people of innovation due to some sort of benefit. So what is your opinion towards this?

Answer :

The shaykh hafidhahullah ta’ala responded by saying that,

“Islaam is something which is upright and good in every time period and every place. Nothing has been abrogated from Islaam after the death of the Messenger sallalahu aalyhi wasallam. So, everything which was legislated when he was alive sallalahu alayhi wasallam then it is something which is legislated in every time and every where.

Hajr (boycotting) is something which is an ilaaj (treatment), a form of remedy and medication for the one who is mahjoor (one being boycotted). Either, to bring him to the sunnah or it is left off (boycotting) being that it could be something which pushes him even further. So, it is not something which is left off in totality. This is something which in itself incorrect.

Also, ascribing a statement, meaning that we should abandon boycotting of innovators, to Al Albany rahimahullah is something which is incorrect. Imam Albany is someone who is known.

The benefits returns to the legislation and Imam Sa’adi said ‘Religion is based upon the benefits in bringing them and repelling the evil matters’.

So the person is either boycotted or is not boycotted pertaining to what the legislation of Allah azza wa jal indicates.

As for something whose benefits return to the dunya, which is something connected to the Dunyaa, and the person for example does not boycott because he (the innovator) gives him money or he is good to him or so on then this is not something which returns back to the legislation, nor is it connected to it nor does it have any form of relation to it (the matter of a person not boycotting an innovator for some benefit ).

So if a person made hajr( boycotted) another person and he benefits him and if the person is a sinner for example and this person boycotts him then this only increases him in evil then the person is not to be boycotted.

And this is an ilaj ( medication) which is used by a well understanding doctor.”
