▪️Ruling on saying, ‘there’s no cure for you’ & ‘you’ve only got a few days left to live’▪️

? Question:

The questioner says: What is the ruling on doctors saying, “There’s no cure for you,” to someone suffering from terminal illness, as well as, “You only have a few days left to live”, as some doctors say?

? Answer:

It’s impermissible to make such statements. “Allaah has not sent down any disease, except that He has also sent down its cure, which some people know about and others don’t.”

Instead, they should say, “We don’t have a treatment for this disease”, and they must refrain from scaring people by saying to them, “You only have a few days left.”

There’s nothing wrong with saying, “We don’t have a treatment for your condition, but we advise you to increase in the remembrance of Allaah and to make Du’a.” And by this, they cause his heart to become attached to Allaah.

They must not dishearten him, and make him loose hope in being cured and dispair in the mercy of Allaah, so he may continue supplicating to Allaah and increase in His remembrance, hoping that Allaah grants him recovery.

Furthermore, Allaah said:

‘No soul knows what it will earn for tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.’ [Surat Luqman 34]
