▪️Ruling on fasting the 6 days of Shawwaal in other than Shawwaal▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
Is it permissible to fast the six days of Shawwaal in a month other than Shawwaal? If it’s delayed due to an illness or travelling, or for a example a woman missed fasting the whole of Ramadhaan due to post natal bleeding, then she made up for this by fasting the whole of Shawwaal, will it count if she fasts the 6 days of Shawwaal in Dhul Qa’dah?
No. The 6 days of Shawwaal are restricted to the month Shawwaal. It won’t be accepted if it’s fasted in any other month.
((من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه ستا من شوال كان كصيام الدهر))
“Whoever fasts Ramadhaan and then followed it with six days of Shawwaal, it is as though he has fasted an entire year.”
If missed fasting in Shawwaal, he would have also missed the virtue of fasting these 6 days.
Abu Ishaq Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ba-‘Alawi
