▪️Eating and drinking unknowingly past Suhoor▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

A woman says she had been fasting the six days of Shawwaal when, on one of the days, she woke up and drank water. After drinking water, she heard the Iqaamah (the call immediately before the prayer). As soon she heard that she realised that she had drank after the time had come in, is her fast valid?

📝 Answer:

Her fast is valid, because she drank, thinking that it was still night-time, and she had the intention to fast this day; so her fast is valid. There’s nothing upon her, because she drank while she was unaware that the time had entered, as was the case with ‘Adiyy ibn Haatim when he used to eat and drink, thinking that he was within the time limit wherein eating was allowed, until the portion:

(من الفجر))

“from dawn” [2: 187], was revealed. Thereafter, they knew that the white thread and black thread mentioned earlier in the Aayah meant the light of day and the darkness of night.
