▪️Combining expiratory fasts with the 6 days of Shawwaal▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: A man is due two consecutive month’s worth of expiratory fasts, yet he wants to fast the six days of Shawwaal. Is it permissible for him to do that?
It is permissible, but it’s better to prioritise the expiation – that’s if you intend commencement (of the 6 days while owing expiratory fasts), but if you intend wedging the six days of Shawwaal into the two months, then this is not permissible; this would (interrupt the sequence, therefore) invalidate the fast, and so he would have to resume fasting (the two consecutive months) once more.
Abu Ishaq Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ba-‘Alawi
