▪️Do you have to face the Qiblah when performing Sadjah Tilaawah?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam – may Allaah preserve him – was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

A brother mentions that he sees people performing the Sujuudut Tilaawah (the prostrations in regards to reciting the Quraan) to different directions, one towards this direction and one in another?

📝 Answer:

There is no stipulation of facing the Qiblah while performing the Sujuudul Tilaawah (prostrations of recitation), because it’s not a prayer there is no condition of facing the Qiblah, but it’s better that they [the people seen prostrating to different directions] all generally face the Qiblah. While supplicating it’s preferred that one faces the Qiblah, the Prophet ﷺ in many repports; faced the Qiblah when supplicating, [for this reason] the prostrations of recitation are more so deserving [to be directed towards the Qiblah], due to it resembling the prayer, so there is no doubt that it’s better that Qiblah is faced, but it’s not a condition, so the prostration in a other direction is correct.

From the angle of that which is better, is that it’s performed towards the Qiblah, if it’s even said regarding the circles and sittings that it’s better to face the Qiblah, then how about the prostrations? No doubt, it’s even more deserving and appropriate.
