▪️If a person dies on the way to Hajj, will his Hajj be accepted?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

? Question:

The questioner says: Whoever leaves for Hajj and dies on the way, would his Hajj be accepted?

? Answer:

Yes, he will have the reward of Hajj recorded for him and his heirs do not have to perform Hajj on his behalf. He will be rewarded according to his intention. Allaah said:

{وَمَن یَخۡرُجۡ مِنۢ بَیۡتِهِۦ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ثُمَّ یُدۡرِكۡهُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ فَقَدۡ وَقَعَ أَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا}

“Those who leave their homes and die while emigrating to Allah and His Messenger—their reward has already been secured with Allah. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

[Surat An-Nisa’ 100]

He will have the reward of Hajj recorded for him and the obligation of Hajj is uplifted from him. For this reason we said it’s not necessary for his heirs to perform Hajj on his behalf because he (did what was upon him by) setting out to perform it, but if they wish to perform voluntary Hajj on his behalf they may do so.
