◾Saying Sadaqa-llaahul-‘ Atheem after reciting the Qur’aan◾
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam – may Allaah preserve him – was asked the following question:
What is the ruling on a person saying Sadaqa-llaahul-‘Atheem after reciting the Qur’aan?
This is a form of innovation and perhaps an innovation whose origins lie in Egypt as it’s very very common over there. The prophet ﷺ used to recite the Qur’aan and he would not conclude by saying ‘Sadaqa-llaahul-‘Atheem’. Likewise the Sahaabah used to recite the Qur’aan and they too never used to conclude their recitation with this phrase. And the best guidance is the guidance of the messenger of Allaah ﷺ.
The prophet ﷺ said
((من أحدث في أمرنا ما ليس منه فهو رد))
‘Whoever introduces something new into this affair (i.e. The religion) will have it rejected.’
And in another wording:
‘’من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد’’
‘Whoever does an action which we have given no authority for will have it rejected.’
Therefore, this is an innovation.
