▪️Is it necessary for a Niqabi to place her hands over her mouth when yawning▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
Is it necessary for a woman to place her hand over her mouth when yawning even if she is wearing a Niqab or her face is veiled?
It’s necessary to cover one’s mouth when yawning, even if this is achieved through a means other than using one’s hand, such as suppressing/restraining it, as the prophet ﷺ said:
((إذا تثاءب أحدكم فليكظم ما استطاع فإن الشيطان يدخل))
“If one of you yawns, let him suppress/restrain it as much as possible, for Shaytaan enters therein.”
But if one cannot suppress it, they should place their hand over their mouth. In the same way, a woman wearing the niqab or the burqa should also place her hand over her mouth to cover it, and Allaah’s is sought.
Abu Ishaq Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ba-‘Alawi
