▪️Separating children’s beds at the age of ten▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: Is it permissible to separate children’s sleeping areas even if their ages differ, for example one is ten and the other is four?
The Prophet ﷺ said:
((مروا أولادكم بالصلاة وهم أبناء سبع واضربوهم عليها وهم أبناء عشر وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع))
“Command your children to pray when they reach the age of seven, and discipline them for (not offering) it when they reach ten, and arrange their beds separately.”
If one of the children reaches the age of ten, their bed should be made separate. So as soon as one reaches ten, they should be given a separate sleeping area from his siblings, and it’s not necessary to wait until they all turn ten before separating them, rather when one reaches ten, they are given a separate sleeping area from the rest.
Abu Ishaq Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ba ‘Alawi
