▪️Are post prayer remembrances & supplications specific to obligatory prayers?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

? Question:

The questioner says: After the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ would say:

((أستغفر الله))

“I seek Allaah’s forgiveness”; three times. Is this specific to obligatory prayers or does it include voluntary prayers as well?

? Answer:

These remembrances are to be said after obligatory prayers. In fact, in some of the wordings of the Hadeeths it specifically says, ‘after obligatory prayers’. So these remembrances and supplications are specifically said after the (five) obligatory prayers seeing as nothing has come from the Prophet ﷺ with regards to saying them after the voluntary prayers (*).

(*) except for what has authentically been reported from the prophet ﷺ, that he would say:

((سبحان الملك القدوس))

‘Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy’; three times after Witr prayer.
