◾Ruling on women performing Adhan & Iqaamah◾
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam – may Allaah preserve him – was asked the following question:
Should a woman perform Iqaamah for Salaah, or should she pray without making the Iqaamah?
It is recommended for her to make Iqaamah (before offering the obligatory prayers), but it’s not something obligatory upon her, because the Prophet ﷺ didn’t instruct women to make Iqaamah before offering Salaah in their homes. Nonetheless, it is a form of remembrance (Dhikr) of Allah, as comes from ibn ‘Umar and Anas; that they said it’s a form of Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah. So there’s no harm if they do the Iqaamah.
And the same applies with doing the Athaan; if she is distant from the Masjid such that she cannot hear the Athaan, then there’s no harm in her doing the Athaan for herself at home, but if she is close to the Masjid where she is able to hear the Athaan, then this Athaan is sufficient for her and she should only make Iqaamah for herself.
