▪️What happens when a person misses one of the pillars of Salaah forgetfully?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

A man had been suffering from a bad cough; so he began coughing during the Maghrib prayer until he missed reciting Faatihah. He continued praying, forgetting about the missed Faatihah, and only remembered at the end of the prayer.

📝 Answer:

If he remembered at the end of the prayer, there remains for him a Rak’ah, and his prayer is not nullified, because he missed the pillar (of reciting Al-faatiha) forgetfully. All that remains is for him to pray an extra Rak’ah (to make up for the deficient Rak’ah). And in doing so, the second Rak’ah becomes his first, and the third becomes his second. Then he adds an extra Rak’ah and performs the prostration of forgetfulness after the Tasleem, because he added actions into his prayer forgetfully.
