▪️Marking mistakes in a students Mus-haf▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: Is it permissible for a Qur’an teacher to mark down mistakes of a student in their own personal Mus-haf, so the student is mindful of his mistakes and therefore able to rectify them?
It’s okay to make slight indications using a pen which will not ruin the Mus-haf; leaving light markings on recurrent mistakes will help the student to rectify and correct mistakes, and there’s nothing in the Sharee’ah forbidding this. But it must be light markings which will not ruin the Mus-haf. Likewise, this should only be used for recurrent mistakes – not that every single mistake the student makes, he marks it down, such that the corrections are so obvious they ruin the Mus-haf; he mustn’t be excessive in this. If he has to make a correction, he does so lightly so it’s unnoticeable, unless one looks very closely. (1)
(1) T.N: using a low grade pencil, like 4B or 3H, would be the best option.
