▪️Standing up in veneration of others▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
What’s the ruling on standing up in veneration of someone, especially if that person likes this?
This (i.e. wishing that people stand in veneration of you) is a grave sin because it is arrogance.
Tirmithi reported from the Hadeeth of Mu’aawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came out one day, and ‘Abdullah ibn Az-Zubair and Ibn Safwan stood up for him when they saw him, so he said: “Sit down, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: “Whoever likes that the people stand up for him, then let him take his place in Hell.”
This Hadeeth is mentioned in the ‘Saheeh Al-Musnad’ of Sheikh Muqbil -may Allah have mercy on him- and it is an authentic Hadeeth.
Abu Ishaq Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ba Alawi
