Salaatul ‘Eid for the one it has not been made easy for him to come out or for the one who is unable.

By our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahman Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 24th, Ramadhān, 1441H.

Salaatul ‘Eid is to be prayed in congregation due to the saying of the prophet (may peace be upon him) : “…وليغدوا من الغد إلى مصلاهم…”

“From tomorrow go to their place of prayer.”

And due to the hadeeth of umm ‘Ateeyah the prophet ﷺ ordered the menstruating women to come out (for ‘Eid) to witness the goodness and the d’awah of the Muslims.

Whether she prays or not the important thing is that she comes out and witnesses the goodness and the d’awah of the Muslims i.e on the side without free mixing.

And whoever it has not been made easy for him to come out and pray in congregation either due to a sickness or due to guarding which cannot be left off, or another than that, than he prays it by himself like the characteristics of salaatul ‘Eid:

So he makes 7 takbeeraat before reciting, and the correct opinion is that this is not including the takbeeratul ihraam (the opening takbeer).

Then he begins reciting.

(Note) He begins these takbeeraat after performing the takbeeratul ihraam and du’aatulis-tiftaah (the opening supplication)

Then in the first rak’ah he recites:

( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى)
Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High

And in the second:

(هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ)
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);

And if he wants then he can read in the first rak’ah:

(ق ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ)
Qaf. By the Glorious Quran.

And in the second:

( اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ)
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder.

By completing them.
In the first rak’ah he reads the whole surah and likewise in the second.
He is not to divide the surah between the 2 rak’aat.

And once he stands up for the second rak’ah, after making the takbeer for standing, he performs 5 takbeeraat and then he recites.

So he prays it, even by himself, and whether that be in the house or wherever is made easy for him.
And he does not perform the khutbah of ‘Eid, it isn’t needed if he’s by himself or with someone else.

The khutbah of ‘Eid is a sunnah, it is only mustahab (recommended), meaning it is an admonition.
The ‘Eid khutbah is only one khutbah, it is an admonition to remind (the people) about the blessings of Allah.

So if he doesn’t do the khutbah there is nothing upon him.

(Benefit)

Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High

Is read in:

  • The first rak’ah for both ‘Eids
  • Jumu’ah
  • Witr

From the hadeeth of ubay – May Allah be pleased with him- that the prophet ﷺ if he ever performed witr with 3 rak’aat, he would recite in the first:

( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى)
Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High

And in the second:

(قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ)
Say (O Muhammad ﷺ to the disbelievers) “O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers)

And in the third

Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): “He is Allah, (the) One.
