▪️It’s not permissible to dye the hair black, nor to pluck out any grey hairs▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: Is dying the hair black considered a major sin due to the punishment mentioned concerning this?
It’s established in the Sunan of Abu Dawood from the Hadeeth of Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“At the end of time there will be people who will dye their hair black like the chests of doves. They will not experience the fragrance of Paradise.”
This hadeeth indicates that dying the hair black is a major sin, so it must be avoided.
The Prophet ﷺ forbade plucking grey hair as proven by the report of ‘Amr bin Shu’aib, from his father, on the authority of his grandfather that the Prophet (ﷺ) said,:
((لا تنتفوا الشيب؛ فإنه نور المسلم يوم القيامة))
“Do not pluck out grey hair, for they are the Muslim’s light on the Day of Resurrection.”
