▪️Are women allowed to beautify themselves by trimming their hair short?▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: Are women allowed to beautify themselves by trimming their hair short?
A woman is not allowed to imitate the styles of the disbelieving women when trimming her hair.
And there’s a report in Saheeh Muslim that the wives of the Prophet ﷺ shortened their hair after the passing of the Prophet ﷺ in order to avoid beautifying themselves, and the trim was as short as Al-wafrah (reaching the shoulders or dropping slightly lower than the ear-lobes).
Take note; they shortened their hair to avoid beautifying themselves. That’s because the beauty of a woman is in her hair, and growing it long.
As for women seeking to beautify themselves by shortening their hair, then it’s mostly likely that they seek to resemble the enemies of Islam by way of this, so it’s best they avoid it.
