▪️What’s meant by ‘Tamayyuz’ (being distinct), as well as ‘Tasfiyah & Tarbiyah’?▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
What did Imaam Al-Waadi’ee -may Allah have mercy upon him- mean when he said:
‘Oh people of the Sunnah! Be distinct, for indeed our Da’wah has not flourished except by being distinct’?
It means to avoid mixing with the people of innovation and the people of evil. The people of truth do not mingle with the people of falsehood, nor do they allow the people of innovation and falsehood to infiltrate their ranks. Without Tamyeez (distinction), people would not be able to distinguish the Sunnah, nor recognise the truth. (What’s the benefit?) You build, and someone else corrupts from within.
Hence, the people of the Sunnah go to great lengths to filter their ranks. They don’t allow innovators or people of desires to infiltrate their ranks. Rather, they clarify and expose their condition so they may return back to the truth, or else, they expell them from their ranks and warn against them.
The (Salafi) Da’wah will not flourish without this; i.e. purifying the truth so that it corresponds to what our Prophet ﷺ came with.
But if the people of falsehood are left to infiltrate the ranks of Ahlus-Sunnah without their condition being exposed, they would cause corruption (from within).
You’re busy teaching people the Sunnah, and they (cancel out your efforts by) teaching them innovation. You teach them the truth and direct them to the prophetic guidance, whereas they indoctrinate them with doubts & desires and corrupt the people of truth and their Da’wah from within.
The (Salafi) Da’wah will not flourish, nor grow strong unless it remains distinct from falsehood.
The Prophet ﷺ was sent with the Criterion, and through him Allah distinguished truth from falsehood, Sunnah from innovation, belief from disbelief and Polytheism from Monotheism.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
((محمد فرق بين الناس))
“Muhammed split between the people”
[Reported by Al-Bukhari, on the authority of Jaabir bin ‘Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him]
In other words, he separated truth from falsehood.
Imaam Al-Albaani, may Allah have mercy on him, would preach to this blessed call using a different slogan. He would say:
‘Oh people of the Sunnah! Purify, then cultivate!’
i.e. purify the hearts, purify the society, purify the souls from Shirk and its people, purify them from innovation and its people, purify them from major sins and its people. Then, cultivate the souls, cultivate the hearts, cultivate the society upon the Sunnah, cultivate them upon the truth and Tawheed, upon adherence to the Methodology of the Salaf; purify the Da’wah of Ahlus-sunnah wal Jama’aah from innovators as well as the people of falsehood; and cultivate them upon the Methodology of the Salaf, cultivate them to adhering to the truth and acting by it in all matters; adhering to the truth as well as the Sunnah in all aspects; worship or dealings, when engaging with a friend or an enemy, even with regards to manners; cultivate others upon legislated ethics and good mannerisms.
This is an excellent and beneficial statement, and it is one of the foundations of calling to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
Calling to the truth is not achieved except through Tasfiyah (purification) and Tarbiyah (cultivation).
The Prophet ﷺ warned people from Shirk and called them to Tawheed. He warned them from falsehood and called them to the truth.
