▪️Ruling on women wearing wigs and false eyelashes▪️
Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:
The questioner says: Are women allowed to wear wigs and false eyelashes?
It’s not permissible for women to wear wigs. The Prophet ﷺ cursed the ‘Waasilah’ as well as the ‘Mustawsilah’.
Waasilah refers to a woman who lengthens hair artificially, [and Mustawsilah refers to a woman who gets her hair lengthened in such a way].
The Prophet ﷺ cursed the one who does this (i.e. hair extension), and this includes wearing a wig without saying, because it’s undoubtedly far worse; as it’s fully artificial.
But if a woman doesn’t have any hair; she’s naturally bald, it’s permissible for her to remove this defect from herself (by wearing a wig), without seeking to beautify herself by way of this; her intention should only be to remove the defect from herself. She’s allowed to cover the baldness using some hair; enough hair to remove the defect, without going overboard and further trying to beautify herself by way of this. The intent is only to remove the defect.
Likewise, applying false eyelashes is yet another form of falsification. It also enters under Al-wasl (extending one’s hair artificially), so this is also Haraam.
