▪️Organ Donation▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

The questioner says: Is it permissible to donate organs like the Kidney and so on?

📝 Answer:

It’s not permissible for a Muslim to donate any part of his body which could result in his death.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
((لا ضرر ولا ضرار))
“There should be neither harm nor reciprocating harm.”

Whereas organ donation could lead to death.

Furthermore, Allah The Almighty says:
{وَلَا تَقۡتُلُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمۡ رَحِیمࣰا}
“Do not kill ˹each other or˺ yourselves. Surely Allah is ever Merciful to you.”
[Surat An-Nisa’ 29]

Many donors are afflicted with illnesses and deseases and expose themselves to great harm through organ donation. In the same way, the benefits of organ donation for many beneficiaries is short lived; it only lasts a few days before they fall ill and die.

Therefore, one must be very cautions in this affair. But if a person is going to buy a kidney from a Kaafir, this is fine; because there’s no Hurmah (sanctity) for a Kaafir.

And Allah’s aid is sought.
