Hadīth Jibrīl Ummus Sunnah (The Mother of the Sunnah)

Question:

Is it correct to call the hadīth of Jibrīl “Ummus Sunnah” like the Fātiha is the Umml Qur’ān?

Answer:

Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, in ‘Fathul-Bāri’ said about it:
“It was said: that it is fit to be called the Ummus-Sunnah (the Mother of the Sunnah) due to all of the Sunnah returning back to it, similar to how the Fātiha is called Ummul-Qur’ān due to the Qur’ān returning to it.”
[End of speech]

And Al-Hāfidh bin Hajr in ‘Fathul-Bāri’ (1/125):
“Qurtubi said: this hadeeth is fit to have Ummus-Sunnah said to it, due to what it contains of the entire knowledge of the Sunnah.”
[End of speech]

Ibn Daqeeq Al-‘Eid, may Allah have mercy on him, in his ‘explanation of 40 Hadīth’ (as mentioned in the explanation of Shaykh ‘Abaad):
“For it’s like a mother to the Sunnah like the Fātiha is called The Mother of the Qur’ān due to what it contains collectively of all the meanings of the Qur’ān.”
[End of speech]

And more of the speech of Abul-‘Abbas Al-Qurtubi is found in the book “Al-Mufahim Lima Ashkala Min Talkhīs Kitāb Muslim” than what has been relayed by Al-Hāfidh bin Hajr.
