Repaying back obligatory fasts requires intention

بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم

A woman from a rural area who has reached old age mentions that, when she was younger she never repaid back the fasts she used to miss during Ramadan due to her menses.

And now she cannot remember how many days exactly she needs to repay. She now however always fasts (extra voluntary fasts) seeking its reward without making the intention to repay the obligatory fasts she missed.

So is there anything binding upon her?

May Allah bless you.

Yes, she’s required to estimate the days she missed due to the menstruation cycle and to repay it.
