Can you speak to each other during the pre-marriage meeting?

Question:

What’s the ruling on conversating with the sister during the pre-marriage meeting, especially when this is in the presence of her guardian, and in order to agree terms affecting their marriage life?

Answer:

This is wrong, it’s not permissible. The Sharee’ah has only given permission to look, as for speaking to her, then nothing has come concerning this. Even with regards to looking, he only looks at her according to the need. It shouldn’t be a long meeting, where they sit there chatting away. This is not permissible. He only looks at what would encourage him to marry her. As for prolonged meetings and conversating with her, then this is wrong and impermissible.
