Question:
What is the correct ruling on wearing an iron ring?
Answer:
There is difference of opinion concerning it, and which is closer to being correct is that it be silver, and for woman gold or silver. As for the man it should be silver exiting the difference of opinion. And the Prophet ﷺ said:
الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدِ
“Look (for something) even if you can find an iron ring.”
And the Prophet ﷺ did not tell him obtain it for it to be wealth. He ordered him to obtain it to be a means of beautification for her because she is commencing upon a wedding. So this is what they used as proof for the permissibility of a person wearing an iron ring. Especially Bukhāri he sees it to be most strongest of proofs concerning it than the other Hadiths of prohibition of wearing an iron ring. So this points towards if a man or woman wore it there is no prevention from the angle of the legislation. And what takes precedence is the leaving off of that to exit the difference of opinion due to the other Hadiths.
