Question:
I’m an engineering student, is it permissible for me to participate with some classmates in designing an appliance knowing that they are in a competition for designing the best appliance and people will come who take pictures of them, however it is possible for me to be absent during the time of them taking pictures? Also if I enter with them and they win the competition prize then is this prize permissable for me (to take) or not?
Answer:
[The Prophet ﷺ said,] “Whosoever would be chaste and modest; Allah will keep him chaste and modest and whosoever would seek self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whosoever would be patient, Allah will give him patience, and no one is granted a gift better and more comprehensive than patience”(1).
That which we advise you with is to leave these things which include helping upon sin and transgression.
