Question:
If a woman has a low-lying placenta then it is permissible for her to pray the 5 obligatory prayers sitting down?
Answer:
There is the hadith of Imrān bin Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) in Al-Bukhari that the Prophet ﷺ said,
“Pray standing and if you are not able to do so then (pray) sitting then if you’re not able to do so then (pray) on your side” [Sahih al-Bukhari hadith 1117]
So therefore whoever is afflicted with an illness or the likes which makes it difficult for them to stand or standing will increase their illness then it is permissible for them to pray sitting down and if sitting harms them then it is permissible for them to pray on their side.
So therefore the woman who has been trialed with a low-lying placenta then she is advised to treat it. Secondly if she is not able to pray standing up and it is possible that it could harm her then she can pray sitting down and there is no problem with this.
