Which is more virtuous for the one who has memorized the Quran, to read from the Quran by looking or to read it off by heart?
Answer:
You are not able to do without either, for verily the one who reads by heart continuously perhaps some verses may go by him unnoticed, and he may miss some letters etc..
And the one who reads from the Quran by looking continuously, then know that he is need of leaving off reading from the Quran by looking in order to make his memorization strong, and he shouldn’t habituate himself reading from the Qur’an only, to the point if he was asked to close the Qur’an and then read he would not be able to do so, and to combine between this and this is good…”
