Benefit:
“Verily the Qur’an is the foundation of all sciences. And beneficial knowledge is the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, this is beneficial knowledge. And one exemplify by way of the book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, as it’s the foundation of all sciences.
And for this reason the student of knowledge is advised to strive hard in memorizing the book of Allah, perfecting it and giving it great importance. For verily if the student of knowledge memorizes the Qur’an and perfects it, other sciences will be made easy for him. Because the Qur’an is considered a treasure as Allah, the Most High, says in His Book:
{يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاء لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ}
Which translates as:
“O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers.” [Yunus:57]
Allah honored His Prophet with the Qur’an and revealed it upon him, and it is the Most Superb book to be revealed. For verily Allah commanded with it’s protection and gave it precedence over other books (He revealed).
Allah has made it (the Qur’an) an inspiration. As Allah the Most High says:
وَكَذَلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ رُوحاً مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِي مَا الْكِتَابُ وَلَا الْإِيمَانُ وَلَكِن جَعَلْنَاهُ نُوراً نَّهْدِي بِهِ مَنْ نَّشَاء مِنْ عِبَادِنَا وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِي إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
That which translates as:
“And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path.” [Ashoura:52]
So He has made it an inspiration and a light as He states:
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءكُم بُرْهَانٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُوراً مُّبِيناً
Which translates as:
“O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light.” [An-Nisa:174]
And the Qur’an is guidance and a healing.
إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا
Which translates as:
“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.” [Isra:9]
And this is why it is a must for the student of knowledge to give great importance to memorizing the Qur’an and not depart from it, or stray from it. For verily you are in need of it and directed towards it whether in the subject of tawhid, or the subject of (the correct) beliefs, or in purification and prayer. And in the subject of jurisprudence and even your dealing with people. You’re connected to the Qur’an. You are in need of it. And for this reason you see this Qur’an has a profound affect on the soul of a person if he listens to it. And because of this great affect it was that the disbelievers rejected hearing it, and called to turning away from it.
Allah says that which translates as:
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ
“And those who disbelieve say, “Do not listen to this Qur’an and speak noisily during [the recitation of] it that perhaps you will overcome.”[Fussilat:26]
And the Most High statement which translates as:
وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَمَّا أُنذِرُوا مُعْرِضُونَ
“But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away.” [Al-Ahqaf:3]
So they turned away and called to the turning away from the Qur’an because of the strength of it’s affect upon them. And from that was when the Jinn’s heard it they witnessed from amongst themselves those that believed in it.
As Allah says that which translates as:
قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا
“Say, [O Muhammad], “It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, ‘Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’an. It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.” [Al-Jinn:1-2]
And the statement of the Most High:
وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَا إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِّنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْآنَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوا أَنصِتُوا ۖ فَلَمَّا قُضِيَ وَلَّوْا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِم مُّنذِرِينَ قَالُوا يَا قَوْمَنَا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا كِتَابًا أُنزِلَ مِن بَعْدِ مُوسَىٰ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْحَقِّ وَإِلَىٰ طَرِيقٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ يَا قَوْمَنَا أَجِيبُوا دَاعِيَ اللَّهِ وَآمِنُوا بِهِ يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُجِرْكُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
Which translates as:
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Qur’an. And when they attended it, they said, “Listen quietly.” And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warner’s. They said, “O our people, indeed we have heard a [recited] Book revealed after Moses confirming what was before it which guides to the truth and to a straight path. O our people, respond to the Messenger of Allah and believe in him; Allah will forgive for you your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.” [Al-Ahqaf:29-31]
As Allah says:
وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰ أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا مِنَ الْحَقِّ ۖ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ
Which translates as:
“And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, “Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.” [Al-Ma’idah:83]
So due to this it’s a must to give great importance to the Qur’an, and the student should make a lot of time for the Qur’an, for it’s memorization and perfecting it. If a student becomes prominent in the sciences (of the religion) but has not memorized the Qur’an. This will become clear. It will show in his classes, in his speeches. It will materialize in his conferences where he will not be able to produce evidences for his speech from the Qur’an. And for this reason the Qur’an was mentioned as the foundation of all sciences and beneficial knowledge. And because of this Allah promised to preserve it.
As Allah mentioned which translates as:
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.” [Hijr:9]
