Question:
Is it OK to name your child ‘Nuh’?(Noah) – peace be upon him.
Answer:
There is nothing wrong with being named Nuh (peace be upon him). It is from the best of names; the names of the Prophets (peace be upon them). As mentioned in the hadith of AlMugeerah (may Allah be pleased with him)
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمُّونَ بِأَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَهُمْ
Indeed they would name (their children) after the Prophets and the righteous people before them
[Narrated by AlMugeerah ibn Sh’ubah in Muslim. Hadith number 2135]
Note: The child should be name ‘Nuh’ and not ‘Noah’.
