Fund Raising for freezers and burials due to the Coronavirus epidemics

Question:

Their was money raised for 55 Muslims to be buried in New York through the “gofundme” for a Muslim Funeral Home. Because the hospitals and Muslim funeral homes have run out of freezer space due to the epidemic of Coronavirus. The people who have money are not assisting the Muslims in this. Many Muslims have lost their jobs and some are living paycheck to paycheck. So what are the Muslims families to do in order to bury their dead? The disbelievers are burning their dead due to the cost, and if the Muslims do not have money to bury their dead, then the state will cremate them. Seeing that we are responsible in burying our dead what is the advice regarding the fund raising. Should the money continue to accumulate or should it stop?

Answer:

As for the fundraiser, it should be done in a concise manner. For example, they could ask a Muslim business man, perhaps he says no, then they ask the next person, and perhaps he may not be able to aid as well. But this is how it should be done, not opening this fundraiser campaign publicly, and the likes of this. Because if this epidemic passes and there is still money left over what will be done with the money? Say, this tragedy has ended but there still remains with you this extra money. What will be done with this money? So one is only to request these funds for the specific amount that is needed. So (we advise) every Muslim that he should look to who can aid him in this affair.

And Allah knows best.
