What to read in the Sunnah prayer of Fajr

Benefit:

There are three Sunnas for the two voluntary rak’ahs of Fajr in regards to what is read in them from Suras and verses.

The First Sunnah: He reads in the first rak’ah Suratl-Kāfirūn, and in the second rak’ah Suratl-Ikhlās.

The Second Sunnah: He reads in the first rak’ah:

“Say (O Muslims), “We believe in Allāh and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrāhīm (Abraham), Ismā’ēl’il (Ishmael), Ishāq (Isaac), Ya’qūb (Jacob), and to Al-Asbāt [the twelve sons of Ya’qūb (Jacob)], and that which has been given to Mūsā (Moses) and ‘Ēsā (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islām).” [Al-Baqarah, 136]

And in the second rak’ah:

“Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allāh, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allāh. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Āal-Imrān, 64]

The Third Sunnah: He reads in the first rak’ah:

“Then when ‘Ēsā (Jesus) came to know of their disbelief, he said: “Who will be my helpers in Allāh’s Cause?” Al-Hawāriūn (the disciples) said: “We are the helpers of Allāh; we believe in Allāh, and bear witness that we are Muslims (i.e. we submit to Allāh).” [Āal-Imrān, 52]
