The anger of Allaah is intensified upon the people who took the graves of their Prophets as Masaajid

Chapter: What came that extremism concerning the righteous will turn it into idols to be worshipped other than Allaah

Reported by Maalik in Al-Muwatta’: That the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “O Allaah don’t make my grave an idol to be worshipped. The anger of Allaah is intensified upon the people who took the graves of their Prophets as Masaajid.”

And to Ibn Jarir with a chain from Sufyaan from Mansoor from Mujaahid

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ

Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-‘Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). [An-Najm: 19]

He used to mix Saweeq (a mixture of honey and barley) for them, then he died, so they did circumambulate around his grave.”

And like this Abu Al-Jawzaa’ from Ibn ‘Abbaas: “He used to mix Saweeq for the pilgrims of Hajj.”

And from Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him, he said: “The Prophet ﷺ cursed the female visitors of the graves, and those who take it as Masaajid and for lighting candles.” [Reported by the people of the Sunan]

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: Tafseer of Al-Awthaan (idols).

The Second: Tafseer of ‘Ibaadah.

The Third: That he ﷺ didn’t seek refuge except from what he feared it’s occurrence.

The Fourth: The compared it with taking the graves of the Prophets as Masaajid.

The Fifth: He mentioned the severity of the anger of Allaah.

The Sixth: And its from the most important: The description of knowing that worshipping of Al-Laat is bigger than idols.

The Seventh: Knowing that it’s the grave of a righteous man.

The Eight: That it’s the name of the person of the grave, and mentioning the meaning of the naming.

The Nineth: His cursing the profuse female visitors of the grave.

The Tenth: He cursed the one who places candles.
