Shaving the head of the newborn and giving its weight as charity in silver

Benefit:

“The Hadith that the Prophet ﷺ said to Fatimah to give the weight of the newborns hair as charity in silver, what is the defect with you all?

A small portion will come, what will the hair of a newborn be, very small amount. [A caller from students says 3g] The Shaykh continues, How much does it come to in this currency? [A student says 4000 riyaals] The Shaykh says MashaAllah.

But what remains is the Hadith, what’s its condition? Even though 4000 is something simple in this currency of ours.

It’s via ‘Abdillaah bin Muhammad bin ‘Aqeel, and also it has another route which is Mursal via Muhammad Al-Baaqir from his father from his grandfather on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, its Mursal, Munqati’. And what is preserved is the Mursal, so its a weak Hadith, and the action of the Salaf is not upon it.

Then ‘Abdullaah bin Muhammad bin’ Aqeel singularly narrated via this route, so there is speculation in the ones who declare it to be Hasan. What is correct is its weakness, and the other issue is the Salaf didn’t act upon it, even the Prophet ﷺ, it’s not known that he gave charity on behalf of his son Ibraaheem, ever! While it was during the later part of his life, and Hasan and Hussein, if we were to state the authentically of it, they are before Ibraaheem bin An-Nabi ﷺ, therefore it’s not authentically established, the Prophet ﷺ didn’t do it nor is it authentically established from the Sahaabah that they used to seek doing it, so it better to leave it.”
